What’s are the types of synthetic ice?

Alt

There are two types of synthetic ice:

The self-lubricating synthetic ice panels are manufactured from a mixture of enriched polyethylene, embedded with environmentally friendly lubricant and other elements (graphite, glass beds, etc.), which in optimal and perfect proportions offer an undeniable likeness to real ice and eliminates the need for a lubricant. The self- lubricating ice panels are dry and don’t require any lubricating oils to be sprayed over the surface.

Skates create gliding effect. The lubricant is released when the panels are connected with a blade and placed under pressure. Because of the friction, once the skate glides over the surface it creates heat and releases the lubricant and brings up other components, which are embedded into to the ice panels during manufacture process.

The self- lubricating synthetic ice panels are designed to help skate more easily and create a more realistic skating experience.

Non - self lubricating synthetic ice panels do not have any form of embedded lubricant, which can cause the surface to be less slippery, difficult to skate on and cause more resistance as a skater moves across the surface.

To make the surface more slippery, non - self lubricating synthetic ice panels require lubricating oil to be sprayed over the surface, which leaves grease on top of the ice panels.

Synthetic ice rinks are often used for recreational skating, training as well as hockey tournaments and other events. Often cities and towns rent synthetic ice rink for holidays.
